Purbaya Affirms Focus On Eradicating Illegal Imports At Ports, Not Markets

Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadive emphasized that he would not raid the clothes of used imports in illegal sacks or balpres in the market.

He said that the focus of his current policy is on efforts to eradicate clothing for former illegal imports that harm state revenues and disrupt local industrial growth.

According to Purbaya, the prosecution will be focused on the port through a direct inspection by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) under the Ministry of Finance.

"I will not raid the market, I am only at the port," he told the media crew, Monday, October 27.

Purbaya added, with strict supervision at the port, the supply of clothing used for illegal imports to the market will gradually decrease and if supply decreases, traders will switch to selling domestic products.

"It will automatically be if (illegal used clothing) is lacking, the supply is lacking, but later I will see what it should be like, slowly the supply will run out, if everything is strangled, it will definitely turn to domestic goods," he said.

Furthermore, Purbaya said, the government continues to strengthen supervision in the field to suppress illegal import practices.

He hopes that the blocking policy at the port can encourage Thrifting business actors to switch to local MSME products.

"I hope they shop from our MSME products," he said.

As a follow-up, he conveyed that he plans to issue a new Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) which specifically prohibits the clothes of used illegal imports or those sent in the form of balpres.

This rule will strengthen previous regulations issued by other technical ministries, including the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 40 of 2022 which has already banned imported used clothes.

"We just strengthen the regulation earlier," he said.

Purbaya emphasized that the ban only applies to used clothes that enter Indonesia illegally.

"When we legalize the illegal ones, while domestic production dies. Fortunately, he will get it, they are the important thing to make a profit," he said.
