Visiting Asia, President Trump Scheduled To Meet Chinese President To Attend ASEAN Summit
JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit during a series of working visits to Asia.
President Trump said on Monday he would meet with President Xi in South Korea "in a few weeks".
"We will meet in South Korea in a few weeks, and we will see what we can do," he told reporters at home to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the White House.
President Trump said he hopes to reach a "fair agreement" with Beijing after a South Korean meeting.
"I'm sure after we leave South Korea we will have a very good relationship with China," said President Trump, saying the two would discuss various issues.
President Trump has repeatedly said he is scheduled to hold one-on-one talks with President Xi when the two visit South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific (APEC) economic summit, as reported by Kyodo News.
President Trump also said he had been invited to visit China and planned to make the trip "possibly early next year."
President Trump's remarks came after a tense week in Washington-Beijing trade relations, after he threatened to impose an additional 100 percent tariff on Chinese imports in response to Beijing's new export restrictions.
In addition to meeting with President Xi, President Trump also said about plans for a series of visits to Asia.
"I will be in Malaysia, Japan, and several other countries. We will do some kind of short tour," he said.
