Sexual Harassment On Commuter Line And KAJJ Still Occurs, KAI Invites To Take Care Of Each Other And Report

JAKARTA - Sexual harassment on Commuter Line and Long-distance Trains (KAJJ) still often occurs. It was recorded that from January to October 2025, there were 36 reports of cases that occurred.

"Of the total reports, 33 incidents occurred at the Commuter Line train service, while three incidents occurred at KAJJ," said Public Relations Manager of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operation Area (Daop) 1 Jakarta, Ixfan Hendriwintoko in Jakarta, quoting ANTARA on Sunday, October 19.

Ixfan said the number of reports serves as a reminder that education and shared awareness are still needed to create a safe and ethical public transportation environment.

As an effort to increase public awareness, especially train passengers, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Jakarta collaborates with a community of train lovers to socialize against sexual harassment.

The activity was carried out in various locations, including the Jatinegara Station area such as on Saturday (18/10), in collaboration with the Train Photograph and Railfans Railway lovers community.

In the socialization activity, train passengers were given education regarding forms of sexual harassment, preventive measures and a quick reporting mechanism in the event of an incident in the station area and on the train.

"Residents who experience or witness acts of harassment can immediately report to officers at the station, on the train, via the KAI 121 Contact Center or by asking for help from other passengers," he said.

Ixfan hopes that with this socialization activity, passengers will be more daring to fight and report if they become victims or witness acts of harassment. KAI will not tolerate acts of harassment in any form.

In accordance with Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning the Crime of Sexual Violence, passengers caught sexually harassing on trains and stations will be blacklisted.

The resident identification number (NIK) of the perpetrators will be blocked so that they can no longer take the train.

He emphasized that public transportation should be a safe space for all people. There should be no fear and no omission.

"We all have a shared responsibility to prevent and take action against all forms of harassment," said Ixfan.
