Mount Ibu In West Halmahera Eruption Again, Abu Capai 600 Meters

TERNATE - The Mother's Volcano Observation Post (PGA) in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, reported Mount Ibu on Sunday, again erupted by ejecting volcanic ash up to 600 meters above the top of the mountain.

"The eruption at around 10:09 WIT with a height of ash column was observed up to 600 meters," said PGA Ibu officer Richard Chaniago in a written statement received by ANTARA in Ternate, Sunday, October 19.

He explained that the eruption of Mount Ibu spewed a column of ash which was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the Northwest.

"This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 10 mm and a duration of ~ 1 minute 6 seconds," he said.

He said that currently the volcano as high as 1,325 meters above sea level is at Level II or Alert Status.

Therefore, the people around Mount Ibu and visitors and tourists should not move within a radius of 2.0 kilometers and the sectoral expansion is 3.5 kilometers to the crater opening in the north of the active crater of Mount Ibu.

"If ash rains, people who are active outside the home are advised to use protective guards such as masks and glasses, to avoid exposure to volcanic ash," he added.
