Ignoring Opposition, Macron Refuses To Resign, Promises To Ensure France's Stability

French President Emmanuel Macron insists he will continue to serve to ensure stability in his country. Macron has ignored repeated calls from the opposition for him to resign amid France's worst political crisis in decades.

"Never forget that the mandate given by the French people is to serve, serve, and serve, and provide answers to the questions of the French people on a daily basis, and do everything possible for French independence," Macron told reporters in Egypt, days after reappointed Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu as head of his government.

"That's all that matters. The rest is a matter of the government. I will continue to ensure stability," Macron continued, whose second and final term ended in 2027.

Previously, opposition and leader of French political party (political party) Les Patriotes, Florian Philippot, encouraged President Emmanuel Macron to follow in Lecornu's footsteps.

"And now Lecornu has just resigned! Now it's Macron's turn!" wrote Philippot in his X account, Monday 6 October.
