JAYAPURA - Another riot occurred in Elelim City, the capital city of Yalimo Regency, Papua Mountains, when the residents were about to carry out a peace procession.

From the report received by the Papuan Police, the incident began when a grocery kiosk belonging to a resident located in front of the Elelim Health Center was burned by a number of people. The burning was triggered by dissatisfaction from several residents regarding the implementation of stone burning in the context of peace.

"From the reports received, it was revealed that residents were angry because the stone burning activity only involved one district, while in Yalimo Regency there were five districts. In addition, they also did not buy agricultural products from farmers, but brought them from Wamena," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Cahyo Sukarnito, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 3.

When the entourage of the Deputy Governor of Papua of the Ones Pahabol Mountains and the Regent of Yalimo Nahor Nekwek arrived at the field of the Yalimo Regent's Office in Elelim, they were immediately greeted with protests and riots of people who did not approve of the stone burning event.

"Representatives of the community had a meeting with the Regent of Nekwek until finally the four districts would be given assistance of Rp. 100 million each and after the meeting the residents dispersed," said Cahyo.

The incident resulted in the Regent of Yalimo Nahor Nekwek experiencing bruises on the temple due to being hit by stones. As soon as the Deputy Chief of the Yalimo Police, Commissioner Elias Endang, suffered bruises on his right head.

In addition, two units of car belonging to the Yalimo Regency Government were also damaged in the broken glass on the left and right sides. "The glass in the front window of the Yalimo Regent's Office was also broken with stones," said Kombes Cahyo.
