ICMI: UN Must Immediately Stop Israeli-Palestinian War

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Muslim Scholars Association (ICMI) urges the United Nations (UN) to immediately ask Israel to stop aggression against the Palestinians. ICMI hopes the Israeli-Palestinian war will end soon and that the two sides can pursue a path of negotiations.

"The Israeli vs. Palestinian conflict is not a war on Religion. It is a war about territorial struggle and a matter of humanity," icmi chairman Jimly Assiddiqie said in a statement Monday, May 17.
Jimly asserted, his party condemns israel's occupation of palestinian territory. ICMI fully supports the Palestinian struggle for its rights.
"We also fully support Indonesia's strategic steps, both at the OIC and at the United Nations that continue to be consistent and active in order to realize Israeli-Palestinian peace," he said.

In addition, ICMI encourages the Government of Indonesia to be an intermediary for the realization of Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Jimly also reminded all components of the nation to work together to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and refugee dip.
"They need clothes, medicine, food, blankets and so on. For humanitarian reasons, we hope that the Government can coordinate assistance from the Indonesian people that can be sent directly to Palestine and to the refugee area," jimly said.
