Minister Bahlil Says Freeport Concentrat Exports Have Not Been Evaluated

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia admitted that until now his party has not evaluated the continued export of the copper concentrate of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI).

In fact, he continued, PTFI's export license expired on September 16.

Bahlil said, the continuation of PTFI's copper concentrate export license was only known after his ministry evaluated Freeport's concentrate exports this year.

"I once again say that I have not conducted an evaluation, wait for an evaluation first. As the government that makes regulations, the regulations must all be by data, first evaluate what happens directly on the underground (mining)," said Bahlil during a dotemui at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Friday, September 26.

Bahlil said he had met with Freeport Indonesia President Director Tony Wenas to discuss this, but PTFI was still focused on evacuating landslide victims in underground mines.

Bahlil admitted that he had also received reports that evacuation efforts were still continuing while five other workers had not been found.

Previously, PTFI President Director Tony Wenas revealed that his party was still waiting for an evaluation from the government regarding the continuation of the copper concentrate export license.

The granting of this export permit follows a smelter fire that occurred some time ago and a smelter that is not yet operating at full capacity.

"It will be evaluated by the government, so according to the Ministerial Decree, it will be evaluated when it ends. That's what we are waiting for the results of the evaluation from the government," said Tony, Wednesday, August 27.
