DPR Supports Prabowo's Offer To Send Peace Troops To Gaza: In Accordance With The Mandate Of The 1945 Constitution
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sukamta supports President Prabowo Subianto's offer to send 20 thousand troops to Gaza, in his speech at the UN assembly meeting a few days ago. According to Sukamta, Prabowo's offer was in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution.
"The recognition of Palestine shows a shift in global attitudes towards the Palestinian issue. This momentum must be continued with concrete steps, one of which is President Prabowo's offer to send Indonesian troops on a peace mission under the United Nations," Sukamta told reporters, Friday, September 26.
"As mandated by the Indonesian constitution, especially the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution which confirms that 'construction above the world must be abolished because it is not in accordance with humanity and justice'," added the legislator from the DI Yogyakarta electoral district.
In addition, Sukamta assessed that the Indonesian government should be more active in encouraging the implementation of two-state solutions through international diplomacy. Both in the United Nations (UN) and in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Moreover, President Prabowo Subianto has also emphasized this at the UN General Assembly. According to him, the affirmation of the two-state solution to Palestinian independence must be immediately translated into concrete steps by the international community.
"Indonesia carries a two-state solution for Palestinian independence supported by various countries that recognize Palestine. However, this declaration will only be a symbol of diplomacy without having an impact on the Palestinian people who are still experiencing colonialism, oppression, and genocide if there are no further concrete steps from the United Nations and the international world," he said.
Sukamta said that the Indonesian House of Representatives representing the Indonesian people appreciated the steps of 11 countries, including several Western European countries, which recently recognized the Palestinian state, so that now 159 of the 193 UN members have given official recognition.
Therefore, Sukamta emphasized that Indonesia must stand at the forefront to support the struggle of the Palestinian people until an independent, sovereign state is realized, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and guarantees the rights back of Palestinian refugees.
"Once again, Indonesia must be more active in encouraging the implementation of two-state solutions through international diplomatic channels, both at the United Nations and at the OIC," said Sukamta.
"We must also firmly condemn Israel for crimes against humanity and violations of international law categorized as genocide by UN investigators," he concluded.
As is known, in a UN assembly session held in New York on Tuesday, September 23, President Prabowo spoke about Indonesia's support for a two-state solution to end the Israeli and Palestinian conflicts.
