Questioning Jokowi's Statement Attitude

JAKARTA - Jokowi's statement that ordered his volunteers to support Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms shows the former president is hungry for power.

Political observer and Executive Director of the Voxpol Center Research and Consulting Pangi Syarwi Chaniago still remembers Jokowi's promise towards the end of his term of office. At that time, he promised to step aside as a former president for two terms.

"In the past, there was a statement that I would return to Solo to become an ordinary person, when I retired, I pulled over and became an audience," recalled Pangi regarding Jokowi's statement.

However, with Jokowi's recent statement, regarding his instructions to volunteers to support the two-term Prabowo-Gibran government, Pangi felt that the Indonesian 7th President again did not keep his promise.

The criticism made by Pangi Syarwi Chaniago stems from Jokowi's move to instruct volunteers to support the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka's administration for two terms. This statement is in line with the Chairman of Volunteers for Bara Jokowi, President (Bara JP) Willem Frans Ansanay.

"From the start, I conveyed to all volunteers like that, to support the government of President Prabowo-Gibran for two terms," said Jokowi in Solo, Friday (19/9/2025).

This statement was made by the former Mayor of Solo when his eldest son had not even served as Vice President for a year. According to Pangi, Jokowi's request to his volunteers to fully support Prabowo-Gibran for two terms was too early.

"Prabowo-Gibran has not served for one year, or not early to talk about the context of two terms when people struggle to survive from the difficult economic crush," Pangi told VOI.

Jokowi, said Pangi, should be consistent with his promise to become an ordinary person without interfering in government affairs. He also gave an example of how Jokowi's predecessors, who were relieved to leave their positions, such as Sukarno, Suharto, or BJ Habibie, who did not want to run for president again after his accountability report was rejected by the MPR at that time.

Gus Dur (Abdurrahman Wahid) also ended with relief. Megawati Soekarnoputri, incumbent who lost the 2004 election, accepted her with a big soul, "explained the man who is familiarly called Ipang.

"SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) finished being president without fussyness, without preparing his son to become a presidential and vice presidential candidate. But Pak Jokowi, after 10 years of damage, what happened?" he continued.

What Jokowi said about his instructions to volunteers to provide support for two terms to the Prabowo-Gibran government, is likened to a 'left side' like 'left side' because it is not in accordance with his previous promise.

In fact, after 10 years in power and leaving his position as the number one person in Indonesia, Jokowi should have been at the level of being a statesman, not a politician who seemed hungry for power.

Is it true that the two Prabowo-Gibran periods are above the interests of the nation and state? Or it seems that Jokowi's power and his family last for a long time and will never end if you look at Pak Jokowi's political behavior so far," quipped the real Minang man.

This is actually not the first time Jokowi's inconsistency has attracted public attention. People certainly remember when Jokowi was said to have not allowed his eldest son to run in the presidential election because he had only served as Mayor of Solo for two years.

However, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta is believed to have made mistakes on Gibran's way to the vice presidential seat, through the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which granted the lawsuit regarding the minimum age requirements for presidential and vice presidential candidates.

In this decision, people aged less than 40 years can fight towards RI1 and RI1 as long as he has served as regional head. Gibran, who at the time of nomination of the vice presidential candidate was only 39 years old but had experience as Mayor of Solo, met the requirements for that.

After the Constitutional Court's decision was issued, Jokowi emphasized that as a parent he could only pray and lead Gibran's decision.

"It is difficult to hold between words and actions. Often the statement that has been said so far is the opposite of the facts that have occurred. The phenomenon of 'right and left turn' is the perception in the minds of the people so far regarding Pak Jokowi," said Ipang.

He also questioned the reason why Jokowi instructed his volunteers to fully support Prabowo-Gibran for two terms, whether for the sake of the people or solely for Gibran and Jokowi's own power.

However, despite having the support of Jokowi and his well-known militant volunteer, Pangi doubts that Prabowo-Gibran's togetherness could last two terms of government. He has seen signs that both of them are starting to get out of line.

"The inauguration of the first cabinet in the history of the vice president was not present at the State Palace, how the story of two periods, one year alone has seen no one package of president and vice president, aka starting to look for each stage," concluded Pangi.
