Anggoro Eko Cahyo Becomes Asbisindo General Chair To Replace Hery Gunardi

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) Anggoro Eko Cahyo was elected as General Chair of the Association of Indonesian Sharia Banks (Asbisindo) for the period 2025-2027, replacing Hery Gunardi, who is now leading the National Bank Association (Perbanas).

The handover process for the Chairperson of Asbisindo was carried out in Jakarta, today, Wednesday, September 24.

In his remarks, Anggoro expressed his gratitude for the previous leadership led by Hery Gunardi.

He said this mandate is the responsibility to encourage Asbisindo to become a strategic partner to strengthen Islamic banking in Indonesia.

"Strengthening the function of strengthening Asbisindo's synergy with the Government and other relevant stakeholders to encourage the Indonesian sharia economy to go to the global stage," said Anggoro, Wednesday, September 24.

Especially after the establishment of economic strengthening and Islamic finance as one of the pillars of inclusive economic growth in the Strategy in the 2025-2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) to encourage inclusive economic growth and increase long-term economic productivity.

Anggoro added that there are at least five aspects that are the main focus of its management.

First, strengthen the synergy between Asbisindo members so that they grow together, healthy and competitive.

Second, strengthening Islamic financial literacy and inclusion, Third, innovation and digital transformation, fourth, accelerates the halal industry for national and fifth economic growth, making Indonesia the world's Islamic financial center.

The next challenge is to penetrate Islamic financial services. Namely high literacy, but inclusion is still relatively low. Through Asbisindo, Islamic banks can devote their thoughts to increase the market share to more than 10 percent. BSI as the leader of Islamic banks is ready to collaborate with other Islamic banks to increase the market share," he said.

In his presentation, Anggoro expressed optimism that the sharia economy could become a new flow of national economic growth.

This is shown by the trend of solid and positive growth in Islamic banking in the midst of fluctuating economic conditions.

He also welcomed the presence of a new Islamic bank with larger size assets than before because it would enlarge the share of the Islamic financial market.

The 2025 OJK data shows that the growth of the Sharia Banking industry has grown better than the National Banking.

Sharia bank assets per June 2025 grew 7.83 percent yoy, higher than the national banking rate of 6.43 percent yoy.

Demikian juga dengan pembiayaan dan yang tumbuh masing-masing 8,37 persen yoy lebih tinggi dibandingkan Perbankan Nasional 7,71 persen yoy.

Asbisindo juga dapat mendorong pertumbuhan halal industri termasuk ekosistem haji dan duduk bersama pemerintah dalam mewujudkan misi menjadikan Indonesia pusat halal global.

“Asbisindo siap menjadi mitra strategis seluruh pihak untuk kolaborasi melahirkan inovasi-inovasi strategis untuk meningkatkan penetrasi keuangan syariah di Indonesia. Serta kesiapan menjadikan perbankan syariah role model arus baru pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia, bahkan di kancah global,” pungkasnya.
