33 Percent Of People Will Homecoming If There Is No Ban, Minister Of Transportation: Now Only 1.5 Million People

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi estimates that about 33 percent of Indonesians will be homecoming at the momentum of Eid al-Fitr this year if the government does not make preventive efforts.

"This picture is based on the results of our survey", he explained in an online press statement, Saturday, May 15.

On that basis, the government then took anticipation measures to prevent mass mobility to suppress the spread of COVID-19 that may be carried by travelers.

"From that portrait, we then took a lot of policies on how to suppress the survey numbers", he said.

In detail, the Minister of Transportation explained that if there is no ban from the government, then the jumbo numbers of 33 percent of Indonesians are potential for homecoming.

"But if banned this percentage then decreases to 11 percent", he added.

Then, when this ban is accompanied by a massive campaign through various channels, the chances of people who will continue to celebrate Eid in their hometowns dropped to 7 percent.

"Then, after the campaign was conducted with real action banning from ministries and related institutions such as the National Police, then this figure again dropped to 1.5 million people and this is quite a bit", he said.

The Minister of Transportation claimed that this series of strategies is quite effective in suppressing the mobility of citizens in the Eid al-Fitr period in 2021.

"This is marked by the achievement of the government's target to reduce the number of homecomings to a minimum", he explained.

On this occasion, Budi also revealed that travelers who want to return to their hometown can pay attention to the departure time. The peak of the backflow is expected to occur on Sunday, May 16, and Thursday, May 20.

"Therefore we urge that people do not (homecoming) on that date because it is full", he said.
