Doctor Affirms Hygiene Is The Main Thing In Using Softlens

Softlens is a flexible contact lens that is placed directly on the surface of the eye. Softlens serves to help the vision for those with minus, plus, and cylinder eyes, or for aesthetic purposes to make the eyes look more attractive.

In the use of softlens, it is easy and practical. However, there are things that must be considered very much, namely related to cleanliness.

Doctor of Ocular Infection and Immunology Sub-Specific, JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinic, Dr. Eka Octaviani Budiningtyas said that cleanliness must be closely maintained when wearing softlens, starting from hand hygiene to places to storing softlens.

"Hygiene (preserving cleanliness). Hand hygiene, a place for hygiene, softlens hygiene," said Doctor Octaviani, when met in the Menteng area, Jakarta, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Doctor Octaviani also recommended that softlens not be used during sleep, and when doing activities related to water such as swimming and bathing.

"And never use softlens to be taken to sleep, taken to swim, taken to take a bath," he added.

With the main thing being this cleanliness, it is actually recommended to use single-use softlens. However, single-use softlens will indeed require more costs.

Therefore, if you have to use monthly softlens repeatedly, then the treatment must be extra. By maintaining cleanliness, the use of softlens is safe and reduces the risk of irritation to damage to the eyes.

"So the safest thing is actually softlens daily, which is disposable, but it's costy. It can be softlens monthly, as long as we can take good care of it, clean, hopefully it's safe. The point is hygiene," said Doctor Octaviani.
