16 Provinces With Potential For Heavy Rain Until Tomorrow

JAKARTA - The Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) recorded 16 provinces with the potential for moderate-heavy intensity rain until Saturday, May 15, tomorrow.

These provinces include Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau Islands, Jambi, Bengkulu, Sumatera Selata, Bangka Belitung Islands, Banten, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi.

BMKG also issued an "alert" status for the 16 provinces. This is related to the potential for floods, flash floods, and landslides that can be triggered by weather factors.

Head of Information and Communication Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Raditya Jati asked local governments from 16 provinces to increase vigilance over potential floods to landslides.

"BNPB urges all policyholders in the areas from the Governor to citizens association levels and the public to be vigilant and increase preparedness for potential hydrometeorological disasters", Raditya said in a statement on Friday, May 14.

Raditya also asked the public to access weather early warning information independently up to the sub-district level through the InfoBMKG application.

BNPB also noted that there are five districts affected by hydrometeorological disasters on Eid al-Fitr 1442 H, Thursday, May 13.

Five of those areas were affected by flooding to landslides. Among them are Tanah Bumbu and Hulu Sungai Tengah districts in South Kalimantan, Kapuas Hulu Regency in West Kalimantan, Simalungun Regency in North Sumatra and Wajo Regency in South Sulawesi.

"The average disaster occurred after previous rains with moderate to heavy intensity hit each area and triggered the overflow of several watersheds", Raditya said.
