Less Budget, Ministry Of Transportation Cancels KRL Extension To Karawang
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has thickened plans for the development of the electric rail line (KRL) to Karawang.
Currently, KRL operations to the East are only up to Cikarang Station.
Director of Traffic and Train Transportation (LLKA) DJKA Kemenhub, Arif Anwar said, it takes a long time to connect the KRL to Karawang. Especially related to the installation of electricity from the upper flow (LAA).
"So now it's just electrified until Cikarang. I don't think the plan to go to Kerawang is yet, because we have to do electrification first until Kerawang," he said in a media briefing at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Monday, September 15.
Apart from requiring long preparations, Arif said that budget constraints were also one of the factors that the plan was finally canceled. He said the current budget would be used for other priority agendas.
But unfortunately, Arif did not explain further what priority agenda was meant.
"Currently, our fiscal capacity may not be enough to be unique, yes, if we do the same electrification as to the Kerawang. Because there are other programs that are more priority," he said.
For your information, the plan for the railway development project for the 2025 fiscal year covers a number of regions in Indonesia.
In North Sumatra, Bridge and Railway Improvement will be carried out on the Medan 'Binjai route.

For the Jabodetabek area, programs included in the priority list include Jabodetabek Railway Capacity Enhancement Phase I, Tanah Abang Station Improvement Phase I, Bekasi Double-Double Track (DDT) Cikarang construction, increasing cross-Citayam' Nambo electrification, improving Tenjo Station, improving Duri Station, developing rail-based transportation in metropolitan areas, to the East'West Line Project Phase I Jakarta Metropolitan Project Transit (MRT) project.
