Russia Agrees On 6,700 Km Gas Pipeline Project To China

JAKARTA - The head of Russia's state-owned gas company, Gazprom, said it had reached an agreement to build a gas pipeline to China.

However, based on the AP report, Thursday, September 11, details of this agreement have not yet been announced to the public.

On paper, the project called Power of Siberia 2 will give Russia a way to compensate for some of its decades-long natural gas sales to Europe for the impact of war with Ukraine.

The pipeline will drain Russian gas from reserves in western Siberia via Mongolia to China.

However, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said the agreement his party built represented Russia with China National Petroleum Co. regarding this project was "legally binding".

This could underscore Russia-China relations that are getting closer than the United States (US).
