Huawei Maextro S800 Spectacle Debut, Can Maybach Dominate?

JAKARTA - Maextro, a luxury car brand born from the collaboration of Huawei and JAC Motors, made a very positive breakthrough in the Chinese automotive market. Its first luxury car model, Maextro S800, recorded an impressive retail delivery, reaching 1,006 units in the first month after its launch.

This achievement is not a joke. Although offered quite expensive with a price range of 1,018,000 yuan (around Rp. 2.3 billion), sales have contributed up to 1 billion yuan (around Rp. 2.3 trillion) for JAC.

This car is the first model built on Huawei's second-generation Tuling smart chassis system and is designed with a smart driving L3 architecture. In dimensions, Maextro S800 has a length of 5,480 mm, a width of 2,000 mm, a height of 1,536 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm.

The Macextro S800 comes with a wide selection to meet high-end consumer tastes, including the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variants. In addition, consumers can choose between a more exclusive four-seat configuration or a more spacious five-seat.

The market response shows that Chinese consumers are now increasingly open to accepting new local brand energy vehicles. In addition to taking advantage of Huawei's reputation, advanced exterior design attraction and practical range-extender technology are key factors that reduce travel concerns.

Orders Exceed Maybach S-Class

Quoted from the ChinaEVHome report, Thursday, September 11, this promising shipping figure is in line with the very high market interest. Huawei Executive Director, Richard Yu, revealed that the S800 had secured more than 10,000 orders in the first 67 days. The latest official figures even showed a cumulative order of 12,000 units in 87 days.

In comparison, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which is one of the symbols of luxury, recorded a total of 12,449 sales in China throughout 2024. This means that the Maybach S-Class only sells an average of 1,037 units per month, a figure almost equivalent to the debut of S800. The momentum of the Maextro S800 order has even rivaled the legendary German brand.

Now, competition in the domestic luxury EV segment is heating up. NIO has also launched its flagship sedan, ET9, with prices starting from RMB 788,000. The model recorded shipments of 835 units in April, adding to the tight competition.

Currently, S800 production is still in an increasing stage. Industry sources reported shipments of 330 units last week, with September's volume projections reaching around 1,500 units. It is hoped that production will stabilize in the fourth quarter, reaching 2,000'3,000 units per month, signaling that Maextro is ready to become a major player in the luxury car market.
