Millions Of Smartphones In The UK Sound Simultaneously In Disaster Self Warning Trials

JAKARTA - Millions of smartphones across the UK sounded sirens simultaneously on Sunday 7 August. This is part of the UK Government's trial to be better prepared to face national emergencies such as natural disasters.

Citing the AFP, simultaneous siren trials on this smartphone caused Britain's third ODI cricket match against South Africa to be suspended, while the kick-off of the rugby league matches was postponed to avoid disruption.

This national emergency attack exercise took place at 15.00 (14.00 GMT), marked by smartphones and tablets making sound simultaneously and shaking for about 10 seconds.

Followed by messages that go to each smartphone and tablet stating that it was just a trial.

This is the second trial of the national emergency warning system in the UK after the first to be held in 2023.

The British government in recent weeks has started out socialization to minimize the impact of the national emergency situation, including the sudden announcement at train stations and signs on toll roads.

Announcements that appear in public places have been made by the British Government in a number of regions five times in the last two years.

One of them was carried out in January 2025, when about 4.5 million people in Scotland and Northern Ireland faced the life-threatening Hurricane Eowyn.
