Sweet Drinks And Alcohol Can Be A Cause Of Hair Loss

JAKARTA - The habit of consuming sweet drinks does not only have an impact on body health in general, but can also affect the condition of the hair.

Researchers find high sugar levels of drinks, along with alcohol, have the potential to exacerbate the risk of loss because they can interfere with the absorption of important nutrients needed by hair follicles.

This finding was obtained from an analysis of 17 studies involving more than 61 thousand respondents aged 7 to 77 years, mostly women. The results show that there is a connection between the consumption pattern of the drink and the increasing risk of hair loss.

A nutritionist from Cleveland Clinic, Julia Zumpano, said that this finding was actually not too surprising.

"National intake does play an important role in hair loss, as shown in this review," he said, quoted from Health.

Although it cannot be concluded as a causal relationship, the researchers assess that excessive alcohol consumption and sweet drinks can interfere with the gut microbiome, affect the absorption of vitamins, and make people who consume them tend to consume less nutritious food.

As a result, the body lacks vitamin D and iron which is actually important for cell growth to the formation of hair follicles.

To maintain the health of the hair, Zumpano suggested that the intake of balanced nutrition remains a priority. He emphasized the importance of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin D and iron, which play a role in bringing oxygen to hair follicles.

In addition, consumption of vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, and soybean products rich in protein, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, and folate can also support strong and healthy hair.
