Ministry Of Trade Says TikTok's Live Deactivation Has No Impact On Online Traders

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) emphasized that the deactivation of live broadcast or live features on the TikTok application has no impact on the sale of online traders.

For your information, the TikTok live feature cannot be accessed for the past three days, from Saturday, August 30, night until September 1, 2025. The restrictions are in line with the hectic direct reports related to the demonstration situation that has occurred in recent days.

The Director General of Domestic Trade (PDN) of the Ministry of Trade, Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan, said that online sales activities at e-commerce were still running as usual.

"There is no impact, what is being done is only live yesterday. For e-commerce activities, it will continue," he said when met at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Jakarta, Monday, September 1.

In addition, Iqbal said, TikTok social media is indeed not allowed to carry out trading activities through the Electronic System (PMSE), including e-commerce.

"For e-commerce activities, it's still running. TikTok is also not allowed to e-commerce, right? So there's no impact," he said.

Previously, the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, hoped that the restrictions on access to TikTok live broadcasts in Indonesia would not last long, considering that many MSMEs used this feature to sell.

He also reiterated that this restriction was carried out on the initiative of the Chinese company itself, not because of a request from the government.

"It was said that live TikTok we also saw from the notification made by TikTok, that they did it voluntarily for the closure of the live feature and we actually hope that this will last soon," Meutya said in a statement in a video on her @duniameutya Instagram account.

Because according to him, although MSMEs can still carry out e-commerce activities without live features, these limitations have the potential to reduce their space in reaching consumers.

Therefore, he hopes, if the situation gets better gradually, the live broadcast feature can return to normal.

"We understand that there are MSMEs that are affected by selling live but hopefully they can still do e-commerce even without being live," he said further.

TikTok's live broadcast feature is known to be inaccessible in Indonesia since Saturday, August 30 evening.

When confirmed, Director General of Digital Space Supervision Alexander Sabar said the restrictions were based on the will of TikTok itself.
