Kunto Aji Regrets Musicians Who Choose To Be Silent And Not Take Community Aspirations

JAKARTA - Kunto Aji is one of the musicians who has been quite vocal in voicing the current condition of the country, where many people have taken to the streets to express their aspirations.

The singer from Yogyakarta was even present and gave an oration at the #SeniLawanTirani event which was held today in the Taman Ismail Marzuki area, Cikini, Central Jakarta, Monday, September 1.

Speaking to the media crew after the speech, Kunto regretted that his friends in the music world chose to remain silent and not voice public unrest.

"That's my concern too. There are also some that I see are still scared," said Kunto.

"We're not going to lose our jobs, we're not going to lose our listeners, we're not going to lose anything," he continued. "What's clear is that the government always changes. So, don't be afraid just when you're in the right ranks."

Kunto also expressed his readiness to take part in other demonstrations with the wider community, not only among art actors and lovers. However, he wants the action to be carried out to be measurable.

"I want to (go down to the streets), from yesterday. It's just that I always update what the conditions are like, in the field," said Kunto.

"We want to voice it but we have to do it measuredly. But if later I will go down? It's very possible," he said.

The Pilu Membiru singer also talked about the reason why he was willing to take part in the #SeniLawanTirania action. For him, the anxiety about the performance of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives has accumulated and it is time to be completed.

The pain has been mounting the term. We've all felt for years that these officials can say anything and without the consequences they face. As if like, 'Yes, what can you do?'. That's the gesture we've experienced over the years. So, it exploded. Exploded from the 25th (August) yesterday," he said.
