Behind The Viral Snack Trend, Enjoying On His Tongue But Danger To Skin And Health
JAKARTA - In recent years, viral snacks have become a trend that is loved by young people. Unfortunately, many of these contemporary foods tend to be high in sugar, salt, oil, and other additional ingredients that if consumed excessively can interfere with the health of the body.
These instant and practical culinary trends often ignore nutritional content, even though the impact can affect metabolism, skin, and brain health in the long term.
Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Anti-Aging Doctors Association, Wellness, Aesthetic & Regenerative (PERDAWERI), dr. Maya Surjadjaja, reminded that consuming fast food and viral snacks can reduce health quality and accelerate the skin aging process.
Food that is trending is usually rich in sugar and flour-based fried foods that produce advanced glycation end products (AGEs). This substance damages collagen so that the skin becomes dry, dull, and more rapidly wrinkled, "explained dr. Maya, as quoted by ANTARA.
He added that the health condition of the intestines plays a major role in keeping the body fit, including in maintaining brain function. According to him, there is the concept of 'gut-brain-skin axis' which describes a reciprocal relationship between the health of the gut, brain, and skin.

The concept shows that the balance of the gut microbiota affects the skin condition and stability of the nerve and hormone functions. "If the intestine is in good health, the skin will look more maintained and the mind will be more stable," he said.
In addition, Maya emphasized that not all fats have a bad impact on the body. In fact, healthy fat is very much needed to maintain skin elasticity while at the same time regulating hormonal balance.
If it avoids fat too much, the skin can look older. The important thing is choosing a source of healthy fat, not eliminating it altogether," he added.
To prevent the bad effects of consuming instant food and viral snacks, people are encouraged to live a sustainable lifestyle. This includes maintaining a balanced nutritional intake, getting enough sleep, managing stress, and exercising regularly.
"Treatment or aesthetic actions are only supporting. The main foundation remains a healthy lifestyle," said Maya.
