Convoy Of 19 Trucks Transporting Aid For Residents In Sudan Attacked, 3 Burned

JAKARTA - At least three trucks were burned when a convoy of 19 humanitarian aid vehicles attempted to send aid to a starving area north of El-Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan.

Citing the SPA news agency viaAN, Friday, August 22, the attack took place in the North Darfur region, Sudan, when the trucks brought humanitarian assistance to the World Food Program (WFP) on Thursday local time.

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned efforts to prevent violence on the delivery of humanitarian aid to people in need.

Saudi Arabia is furious by the threat of the safety of civilians and aid workers in the incident.

The World Muslim League (MWL) also strongly condemned the attack. MWL considered the action a serious violation of international religious and legal values when the Sudanese people suffered from the destruction of war.

MWL called for all parties to comply with the provisions of the Jeddah Declaration signed in May 2023, including the protection of civilians, the security of humanitarian corridors, and to prioritize "effective and serious dialogue" to achieve political solutions to the conflict in Sudan.
