Question Pramono's Claim, PSI: We Are Surprised, Jakarta's Congestion Is As If It Can't Be Resolved

JAKARTA - Member of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Bun Joi Phiau, admitted that he was surprised by the claim by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, about the current decline in congestion rates in Jakarta, only referring to the latest TomTom Traffic Index survey.

Because, according to him, recently Jakarta was hit by severe congestion at several points after heavy rains fell. The congestion was caused by excavations and an increase in the volume of vehicles which was exacerbated by rain.

"We are surprised why this traffic jam in Jakarta seems to be unresolved. From time to time, such as when heavy rains occur, severe congestion like this happens again and disrupts people's daily lives," said Bun Join to reporters, Friday, August 22.

In fact, Bun Joi assessed that the DKI Provincial Government should know that the volume of vehicles passing through Jakarta is still crowded. Congestion is even more unavoidable when accompanied by rain that hinders travel, to excavation projects.

"The DKI Provincial Government seems unable to handle these factors, even though they already know what the root of the problem is," he said

Thus, Bun asked Pramono not to be complacent with the results of the TomTom survey which stated that Jakarta is now ranked 5th, no more congested than Surabaya, Palembang, Medan, and Bandung.

"The reality is that congestion continues and conditions are very severe in several sections such as Jalan TB Simatupang and Sudirman. I urge the DKI Provincial Government not to feel comfortable and happy quickly with the achievements in the index quoted by Mas Pram," he said.

Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said that Jakarta is no longer the most congested city in Indonesia. This condition is thanks to the development of public transportation affordability that the DKI Provincial Government continues to carry out.

Pramono said, Jakarta is in fifth place in the city with the most congestion in Indonesia. The recommendation is the results of the TomTom Traffic Index survey as of 2024 made by the Dutch navigation device company, TomTom.

"What Jakarta has been ranked 1st in Indonesia, now it is ranked 5. This means that what we plan to do with Trans Jabodetabek and the improvement has improved," said Pramono some time ago.

In the survey, TomTom revealed that the most congested city in Indonesia in 2024 is Bandung with an average travel speed of up to 10 kilometers taking 32 minutes 37 seconds, followed by Medan City with an average travel speed of 32 minutes 3 seconds.

Then, Palembang City with an average travel speed per 10 kilometers takes 27 minutes 55 seconds, Surabaya City with a time of 26 minutes 59 seconds, and Jakarta with a time of 25 minutes 31 seconds.

In addition, Jakarta is also out of the top ranks of the most congested cities in the world according to the TomTom survey version. In 2023, Jakarta is ranked 30th most congested cities in the world from 386 cities. Then in 2024, Jakarta will rank 90th in the world's most congested cities.

"So, it means that there is a real improvement in transportation in Jakarta. Indeed, the increase is significant, people who use public transportation," said Pramono.
