Hundreds Of Thousands Of Prison Inmates In Indonesia Get Remission Of RI's Independence Day August 17
The Director General of Corrections (Dirjenpas) of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas), Brigadier General Mashudi, led the reading of remissions for correctional inmates (WBP) at the celebration of the 80th centralized RI Anniversary at the Class IIA Salemba Prison, Central Jakarta, Sunday, August 17, 2025.
"General remission on August 17, 2025, this is a total general remission of 179,312 people throughout Indonesia. As for the decade remission, a total of 192,983 people were all," Brigadier General Mashudi told reporters.
Just so you know, decade remission is a reduction in the sentence given once every 10 years, coinciding with the commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
The granting of remissions is based on Presidential Decree No. 120 of 1955 as a form of appreciation at an important moment of national independence.

"For free general remissions, this is immediately free, a total of 3,917 people. As for this decade of remission, there are 4,500 people who are immediately free. As for the additional remission, there are approximately 708 people," he said.
Brigadier General Mashudi said that the provision of general remissions and remissions for this decade was carried out simultaneously throughout Indonesia. General remission is given to all inmates without exception.
"(Giving remissions) This is all cases without exception. We give everything, everything. Including our decade is the same, we give everything. There is no favor in any case. All the inmates we get (remissions)," he said.
Meanwhile, areas that get a lot of remission are in the Java island area, namely Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, West Java.
"Because the capacity is quite a lot," he said.
