The Palace Signals Megawati Not Attending The INDONESIAN 80th Anniversary Ceremony At The Palace
JAKARTA - The Minister of State Secretary gave a signal that the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri did not attend the Commemoration of the Seconds of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence at the Merdeka Palace, Sunday (17/8).
Prasetyo confirmed the news that the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) of Struggle would lead the ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta.
"Yes, for the time being," said Prasetyo as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, August 15.
Prasetyo said that most of the invitations, especially to the former President of the Republic of Indonesia, who is a national figure, had been presented to attend the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace.
However, he said, the decision to fulfill the invitation was returned to the nation's leaders.
"The full decision we leave to him all," said Prasetyo.

Previously, PDI-P DPP chairman Ganjar Pranowo said Megawati would lead the ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the Party School, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Sunday (17/8).
"I think you will lead the ceremony in Lenteng Agung," Ganjar told reporters in Jakarta, Thursday (14/8).
Megawati was absent from the invitation of the Ministry of State Secretariat (Kemensetneg) at the 79th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence ceremony in the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) last year.
At that time, the PDIP DPP revealed the reason why its party chairman led the ceremony for the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Lenteng Agung Party School, Jakarta, based on a direct request from the party cadre bearing the white-nosed bull symbol.
Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, Sunday (17/8) will be centered in the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace and the National Monument (Monas) area, Jakarta.
Based on the Circular Letter of the Minister of State Secretary Number B-25/M/S/TU.00.03/08/2025, the commemoration ceremony for the Seconds of the Proclamation and Ceremony of Lowering the Red and White Flag will be led directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto as the ceremony inspector.
Invited guests include the leaders of state institutions, the Governor of Bank Indonesia, the Minister of the Red and White Cabinet, the Attorney General, the TNI Commander, the National Police Chief, the ambassador of friendly countries, and the public. Participants are advised to wear the archipelago wastra.
