Menekraf Signs WIPO Joint Agreement To Strengthen Indonesia's Intellectual Property

The Ministry of Creative Economy (Kemenekraf) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Jakarta recently.

This collaboration is a form of synergy between stakeholders in Indonesia to effectively utilize intellectual property systems in order to increase competitiveness in order to support the creative economy sector.

The signing of the MoU is a follow-up to the hearing with WIPO which was held on March 25, 2025 and Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya was also present in the 66th Series of Meetings WIPO series in Geneva, Switzerland on July 17, 2025.

The Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky, said that the signing of the MoU was in line with the Kemenekraf mission, so that the creative economy would become a new engine for national economic growth starting from the regions. Moreover, Indonesia's intellectual property assets are scattered not only in big cities, but also in remote parts of the country.

"Indeed, the Ministry of Creative Economy has been mandated by President Prabowo in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for the next five years, with four indicators of focus on development related to employment, investment, export, and contribution to GDP (Gross Domestic Product)," said Teuku Riefky in his statement, Thursday, August 14.

Riefky said that the Joint Understanding with WIPO also aims to protect and promote Indonesia's intellectual property, especially the creative economy by supporting creators and facilitating access to a more dynamic and competitive global market.

"Of course, intellectual property protection is also a very important foundation in achieving the target of the Main Performance Indicator (IKU) of the Ministry of Creative Economy," said Riefky.

Menekraf continued, WIPO as a world organization has protected its members to continue to support legal protection so that intellectual property can be maintained and commercialized.

Meanwhile, this scope of cooperation includes the development of human resources, management of Intellectual Property (IP) or intellectual property, IP-based financing and funding that are facilitated, research and data exchange, increased awareness and knowledge related to intellectual property, and the implementation of activities related to intellectual property.

In detail, the scope of the MoU between the Ministry of Creative Economy and WIPO, namely:
