Banned From Going Abroad, Gus Yaqut Asks The Public Not To Speculate The Legal Process
JAKARTA - Yaqut Cholil Qoumas or Gus Yaqut through his spokesman, Anna Hasbie, gave a response to the denial carried out by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) against the former Minister of Religion (Menag) 2020-2024.
Anna said that her party would comply with all applicable legal processes related to the investigation of the alleged corruption case of quotas and the implementation of Hajj in 2023-2024 which dragged Gus Yaqut's name.
"As part of the community that respects the law, he affirms his commitment to cooperate with law enforcement officials to resolve this case according to existing regulations," Anna said in a written statement, Tuesday, August 12.
Anna said Gus Yaqut entrusted the KPK in the process of investigating this case. He also believes that the legal process will run objectively and proportionally.
He also asked all parties to wait for the results of the investigation without prejudice, while providing space for law enforcers to work professionally.
"We appeal to the entire community and the media not to speculate that could interfere with the legal process. Gus Yaqut Cholil Qoumas will continue to prioritize the principles of openness and legal compliance in every step," Anna continued.

The KPK prevented Gus Yaqut and two other people from investigating the case of the alleged corruption case of the quota and the implementation of the Hajj in 2023-2024.
The two are Special Staff for Relations of Religious and Social Organizations and Religious Moderation, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA) and Travel Maktour Owner Fuad Hasan Masyhur (FHM).
KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo said the application for a ban on traveling to the Directorate General of Immigration was made on Monday, August 11. This decision was taken to facilitate ongoing investigations.
"The KPK has taken action against traveling abroad because the existence of the person concerned in Indonesian territory is needed in the context of the investigation process for alleged corruption," Budi told reporters in a written statement, Tuesday, August 12.
