145 Out Of 193 UN Member States Support The Sovereignty Of The Palestinian State

JAKARTA - A total of 145 of the 193 UN member states recognize the Palestinian state. The announcement of the recognition of the Palestinian state is planned to be held at the UN General Assembly in September 2025.

Citing AFP, Monday 11 August, three-quarters of UN members have or will soon recognize the Palestinian state, following Australia's recognition today.

Israel's military invasion since October 2023, which has left Gaza and its residents in a humanitarian crisis, has again called for Palestine to be declared an independent and sovereign country.

This push breaks the long-standing view that Palestine will only gain statehood from a peace deal negotiated with Israel.

In fact, the Palestinian state has established with Jerusalem as the capital after Yasser Arafat proclaimed while serving as Palestinian leader on November 15, 1988.

Yasser Arafat's announcement was held in Aljir at an exiled Palestinian National Council meeting, establishing a two-state solution as a destination, with independent Israeli and Palestinian countries coexisting.

A few minutes later, Algeria became the first country to officially recognize an independent Palestinian state.

In a week, dozens of other countries, including much of the world of Arabs, India, Turkey, mostly Africa, and several Central and Eastern European countries, followed in the footsteps of Algeria.

The next wave of admissions came in late 2010 and early 2011, at a time when the Middle East peace process was experiencing a crisis.
