President Trump's Government Plans To Build The Largest Migrant Detention Center In Military Bases

JAKARTA - The United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) on Thursday revealed that President Donald Trump's administration plans to build the country's largest federal migrant detention facility on a Texas military base.

This is the latest step by the Trump Administration in using military resources to realize its immigration agenda.

The Pentagon said the initial plan was to detain 1,000 migrants in Fortbans, El Paso, Texas, from mid to late August and then complete construction of facilities with 5,000 beds in "weeks and months to come."

"After completion, this will be the largest federal detention center in history for this important mission, the deportation of illegal immigrants," Kingsley Wilson, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters.

Although this facility is built on a military base, the Department of Homeland Security is expected to take responsibility for migrants.

Detention of migrants at US bases is nothing new. Even under Trump's predecessor from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, the Pentagon has approved requests to accommodate unaccompanied migrant children at military facilities in Texas.

It is known that President Trump has stepped up the arrest of illegal immigrants in the US, taken firm action against illegal border crossings, and revoked the legal status of hundreds of thousands of migrants.

Since taking office this year, President Trump has sent migrants to the naval base of chromo Bay, although the numbers are far less than planned.

In addition, the President Trump Administration is also building other facilities to accommodate migrants. A 1,000-bed facility in Indiana will soon be opened and dubbed "Speedway Slammer."

The Trump administration praised its actions along the border, including the deployment of active troops, as a reason for the sharp decline in the number of illegal migrants crossing.

President Trump has made voter concerns about immigration the basis for his re-election campaign in 2024.

The number of migrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has hit record levels in recent weeks, with about 57,000 people detained as of July 27, according to ICE data.
