Sukamta: Solution Documents For 2 Countries Are Positive, But Haven't Touched The Roots Of The Problem
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Sukamta welcomed the results of the International Summit at the United Nations Headquarters (UN) which resulted in a framework document for a two-state solution (Two-State Solution) for the resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Documents supported by 19 co-chairman countries, including Indonesia, are considered not only symbolic, but are a concrete framework for realizing peace and justice in the world.
"The resulting documents and attachments reflect the work of eight groups that discuss political, legal, security, and humanitarian dimensions. This process is a concrete step that should be appreciated, but has not yet touched the root of the main problem," said Sukamta, Thursday, July 31.
According to the legislator from the Special Region of Yogyakarta, the document still requires strengthening the substance in order to ensure justice and stop Israeli violations of international law.
"This document has not yet touched the root of Israel's humanitarian crime and international law violations," he stressed.
To that end, Sukamta urged the Indonesian government to take strategic steps in following up on the results of the summit. He requested that Indonesia encourage a fair implementation of the decision of the International Court which declared the occupation and settlement of Israel in the Palestinian territories an illegal act.
"The government must encourage fair implementation of the decision of the International Court," he said.
In addition, Indonesia is also encouraged to make the reconstruction of Gaza and the construction of the Palestinian territories part of the priority of the international agenda.
"Indonesia must take an active role in international diplomacy and be more active amidst the escalation of violence against the Palestinian people," he said.
Sukamta also invites all parties, both in national parliament and in international parliamentary diplomacy, to continue to oversee the Palestinian issue.
"True peace will only be born if justice is served," he concluded.
Earlier, at a high-level conference at the United Nations on Tuesday (29/7) local time, participating countries called for Israel to commit to the formation of a Palestinian state and provide strong support for a two-state solution.
