DLH Mataram Emission Test Before Using Waste Processing Incinerator

JAKARTA - The Environment Agency (DLH) of Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), is conducting emission tests to ensure that waste processing plans using incinerators do not pollute the environment and meet exhaust emission standards.

"Testing is important to maintain the air quality and health of the surrounding community," said Head of the Mataram City DLH Waste Division, Vidi Partisan Yuris Gamanjaya, in Mataram, Antara, Thursday, July 31.

This emission test is carried out ahead of the operation of the incinerator at the Sandubaya Waste Shelter (TPS), which is targeted to be tested in the next week. Emission tests will be carried out before and after the incinerator is used, and routinely carried out every month after the operation runs.

"For the results of the emission test currently being carried out, we are still waiting for the official report," said Vidi.

He added that the trials of incinerators will use the overflow of garbage from H Moh Ruslan Mataram Hospital with a capacity of 10 tons per day. In addition, the remaining waste at the Sandubaya TPS which is not transported to the Kebon Kongok Final Disposal Site (TPA), West Lombok Regency, will also be used.

"From the original 2,000 tons, now there are only about 200 tons of waste left," he said.

The Mataram DLH will evaluate various impacts during trials, including smoke and other environmental effects caused by combustion using incinerators.

According to Vidi, the incinerator system will burn the trash to ashes without leaving any residue. However, not all types of garbage can be burned.

"There are types of waste that have to go through a special process, such as garbage that contains dangerous chemicals, heavy metals, or certain types of plastic," he explained.

Therefore, the Mataram DLH continues to urge the public to get used to sorting waste from households so that the processing process at TPS becomes more efficient and safe.
