17 People Died When Russian Bombs Hit Ukrainian Prisons

JAKARTA - At least 17 people died as a result of a Russian bomb attack that hit a prison in Ukraine's southeastern region on Monday night, officials said.

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky said dozens of other people were injured in attacks on Zaporizhia's frontline region, describing it as a "deliberate" bombing.

"Russia may not be aware they are targeting civilians at the facility," he wrote on X.

"And this was done after the United States expressed a very clear stance," he continued.

President Zelensky added that a total of 22 people were killed in an attack last night by Russia, including a 23-year-old pregnant woman who was killed in a missile attack on another hospital in the southeast.

Separately, Ukraine's Ministry of Justice said in a statement that the prison dining room had been destroyed and other parts were damaged in an attack involving four high-led aerial bombs and injuring 42 people.

Reuters was unable to independently verify the report, and there has been no immediate comment from Russia.

Russia has stepped up airstrikes well behind its full-scale invasion frontline, which is now entering its fourth year, as it progresses on the battlefield.

President Trump, who underlined his frustration with President Putin, said on Monday he would give Russia 10 or 12 days to achieve progress in ending the war.

Both Russia and Ukraine have denied targeting civilians in their attacks. However, thousands of civilians have died in the conflict, most of them Ukrainians.
