The Vibration Of The M 5.1 Earthquake In The Banda Sea Was Felt Until Wakatobi
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 in the Banda Sea was felt on Binongko Island and Tomia, Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra).
Head of the BMKG Geophysics and Climatology Station Kendari Rudin when contacted in Kendari, Sunday, said that the tectonic earthquake occurred at 10.45 WITA.
Rudin said that from the report received by the epicenter of the earthquake, it was in the Banda Sea about 99 kilometers from Wakatobi waters, but the vibrations were felt up to Binongko Island, Tomia and Togo Binongko.
"The earthquake was felt in Wakatobi waters," he said.
He said that based on the reports received, the tremors of the earthquake were felt on several Wakatobi Islands with scale III and MMI IV or felt by everyone in the house.
However, from the results of BMKG monitoring, the earthquake occurred due to rock deformation due to the slab pull mechanism in the Banda Plate.
"Based on the results of the analysis of the source mechanism, it shows that the earthquake has a downward shift mechanism," he said.

In addition, BMKG has not received any reports from the public regarding the damage caused by earthquake tremors.
"The public is advised to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified," he said.
