Meta Completes AI Play Voice Cloning Startup Acquisition Agreement

JAKARTA - Meta Platform Inc. reportedly completed an acquisition agreement for Play AI, a startup that provides California-based artificial intelligence (AI)-based sound cloning tools.

Based on an internal memo to employees that Bloomberg has successfully received, the entire Play AI team will join the Meta team starting next week.

Setelah bergabung dengan perusahaan, tim tersebut akan bekerja di bawah Johan Schalkwyk, yang sebelumnya mengawasi riset AI ucapa untuk Google dan juga baru saja direk dari startup AI suara lainnya.

The PlayAI tool is claimed to be able to clone the user's voice and produce a new sound that resembles a human voice, which can be used on websites, applications, or cell phones.

Meta also notes in its memo that the work of the PlayAI team is "very suitable" for its own work and roadmaps in a variety of products, including Meta AI, Character AI, and wearables.

The Mark Zuckerberg-owned company has also confirmed the news of the acquisition to Bloomberg, but did not disclose how much it paid for the deal.

Some time ago, Meta was also reportedly secretly acquiring eyewear companies. The company acquired nearly three percent of shares from the company EssilorLuxottica.

Sources familiar with the matter, according to Reuters, said that Meta bought its shares worth 3 billion euros or around Rp57 trillion. The company also plans to increase its shares by five percent.
