Commission III Of The DPR Calls The Criminal Procedure Code Bill Will Not Increase The Authority Of The Police, The Rules For Wiretapping Are Not Regulated
JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission III of the DPR Habiburokhman said that the Draft Law (RUU) of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), which is currently being discussed, will not increase the authority of the Police.
Habiburokhman emphasized this in response to the assumption that a number of parties said the police would be stronger through the Criminal Procedure Code Bill.
"It is said that the police are getting stronger, because they are referred to as the main investigators, as in Article 7 paragraph 5. We need to convey that the arrangements in the new Criminal Procedure Code are exactly the same as the old Criminal Procedure Code," said Habiburokhman, Friday, July 11.
Habiburokhman also emphasized that the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code actually reduced the authority of the National Police compared to the old regulation.
Because he said, the Criminal Procedure Code has not regulated certain investigators such as KPK investigators, prosecutors, and the Navy for a long time.
"Not giving additional authority to the Police, even reducing the authority of the Police from those regulated in the old Criminal Procedure Code," he said.
"Because in the old Criminal Procedure Code there were no KPK investigators, there were no corruption investigators at the prosecutor's office, there were no Navy investigators, certain investigators. There were no old Criminal Procedure Codes, so here it is mentioned, except for," continued the Gerindra Deputy.
Habiburokhman said that the revision of the Criminal Procedure Code only emphasized that the National Police were the main investigators, but there was no additional authority at all.
"There is no additional authority at all," he said.

In addition, Habiburokhman said the wiretapping authority by law enforcement officials was not regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code Bill. He said it had been agreed by the legislative legal commission.
"There is no regulation regarding wiretapping in this Criminal Procedure Code," said Habiburokhman.
He said wiretapping matters would be discussed in a special law. However, according to him, the discussion of the law regarding wiretapping has not yet been rolled out.
Habiburokhman also stated that Commission III of the DPR would hold a public test and cooperate with community participation when discussing the law regarding wiretapping.
"The process will be long," he said.
