China Offers Aid To Resolve Thailand-Kamboja Border Dispute
JAKARTA - China urges Cambodia and Thailand to resolve their border disputes through friendly dialogue. China offers a constructive role by upholding an objective and fair position.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged peace relations between the two neighboring countries in a meeting on Thursday with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Malaysia.
"China is willing to uphold an objective and fair position and play a constructive role for harmonious coexistence between Thailand and Cambodia," Wang said.
Tensions have risen between the two neighboring Southeast Asian countries since late May, after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a brief firefight in a disputed area on their border 820 km (510 miles).
Last month, Cambodia asked the International Court to resolve the dispute.
Wang reiterated China's neutrality regarding border issues in a meeting with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on the same day, the ministry said in a separate summary.

Foreign Minister Wang stressed security measures to protect Chinese and Cambodian citizens, calling for firmer action to eradicate cross-border crimes such as online gambling, fraud through wire, forgery, and smuggling.
Referring to the US tariff, Wang said China believes Southeast Asia has the ability to address complex situations and protect the common interests and interests of each country.
