Google Maps Now Available On Garmin Smart Watch

JAKARTA Google Maps, a directional application, is now available on a number of Garmin smartwatches. This application can be downloaded for free via the Connect IQ Store.

The Garmin devices compatible with Google Maps are the smartwatch series Venu, Forerunner, v firevoactive, and phenix. With this application, users can monitor their journey without the need to remove the phone from their pants pocket.

Susan Lyman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Garmin Consumers, said that the Maps application will display a real-time direction notification on the device. Users will get a distance and directional description on their watch.

"(This application) will help users stay on the right track," Susan said. "The turn-by-turn notification will be the perfect solution for those who want to stay connected without touching the phone."

Users can also monitor the next three turns they need to take by simply tapping the app. This feature will be very useful for Garmin users who like to walk to their destination or cycle and run on a new route.

Upon arrival at the intended location, users can sync their activity data through the Garmin Connect. This data can be integrated into other Android health and fitness applications through the Health Connect application.

Unfortunately, this feature is not as sophisticated as Maps in Wear OS-based smartwatches. For now, users only get limited functionality, similar to Google Maps on Apple Watch. It is not yet known whether Garmin plans to improve its features in the future.
