Tigapilar Agro Utama Boss, Who Bribed Juliari Batubara Is Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Corruption Court sentenced Tigapilar Agro Utama boss, Ardian Iskandar Maddanatja to 4 years in prison and a fine of IDR 100 million, a subsidiary of 4 months in prison. Ardian was found guilty of bribing Juliari Batubara in the COVID-19 social assistance fund case while serving as Social Minister.

"Sentenced to imprisonment for 4 months of imprisonment and a fine of IDR 100 million on the condition that if the fine is not paid then a sentence of 4 months imprisonment is replaced", said the judge reading the verdict at the trial at the Corruption Court in Jakarta, Wednesday, May 5.

Ardian was legally and convincingly proven to have violated Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or Article 5 paragraph (1) letter b or Article 13 of Law Number 31 Year 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 Year 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crime.

The panel of judges considered mitigating and burdensome things in this decision.

"The thing that is burdensome is that the defendant did not support the government program to eradicate the criminal act of corruption committed by the defendant in handling the impact of COVID-19", said the judge.

"Things that relieve the defendant have never been convicted, regret his actions, and have a family responsibility", continued the judge.

Ardian bribed former Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara for IDR 1.95 billion. The bribery was carried out so that the company was appointed as the provider of COVID-19 social assistance to the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2020.
