Still Rainfalling, The Government Modified Jabodetabek Weather Until July 11
JAKARTA - The government has decided to carry out a weather modification operation (OMC) in the Jabodetabek area in the next few days. This is related to heavy rains that are still pouring the area.
Director of Weather Modification Operations of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Budi Harsoyo revealed that cloud seeding using chemicals by plane will start today until July 11.
"The weather modification operation plan will last until July 11. The command post at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, while it is also possible that later we will review whether the Jakarta area, especially Jabodetabek, also needs to thicken the aircraft," Budi said in a virtual press conference, Monday, July 7th.
Budi said that his party is currently coordinating with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Indonesian Air Force, and the relevant regional disaster management agency for OMC planning.
"Meanwhile, BNPB has prepared one aircraft. If later needed, the TNI fleet may also be ready to support it because of the coverage, if we look at West Java and DKI, what needs to be anticipated, especially in the upstream area of Jabodetabek," he explained.
Separately, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Isnawa Adji said that his party had reported the weather modification plan to the Governor-Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung-Rano Karno.
According to him, Jakarta is an area that needs to be the target of reducing the intensity of high rainfall. Given, currently there is the potential for rain cloud growth in South Jakarta and East Jakarta.
"OMC will be carried out with a focus above Bogor, Bekasi, Tangerang and Jakarta as an effort to reduce the increase in water discharge upstream. We will prepare BPBD with the existing budget," explained Isnawa.

Previously, the BMKG estimated that a number of areas would potentially experience heavy to very heavy rain in the next week, namely the western and central parts of Java including Greater Jakarta, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi and surrounding areas, West Nusa Tenggara including Mataram, central Maluku, central and northern Papua.
In the period 10 to 12 July 2025, the potential for significant rain is expected to shift to the central and eastern parts of Indonesia, along with shifts in atmospheric disturbances and distribution of tropical humidity.
BMKG also predicts that quite high rainfall will still occur until next October in most parts of Indonesia. Along with that, the dry season in a number of areas has experienced setbacks. By the end of July 2025, only about 30 percent of the season zone had entered the dry season.
