The DPR Faction Begins To Discuss The Constitutional Court's Decision Tomorrow Before A Meeting With The DPR Leadership

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI from the Democratic Party faction, Dede Yusuf Macan Effendi, said that the factions in the DPR RI are preparing to discuss the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which separates the implementation of national and regional elections.

According to Dede, each party has started discussing their steps, while waiting for an official invitation from the leadership of the DPR for a joint meeting of all factions in responding to the decision institutionally.

"Actually, if we talk about the Constitutional Court's decision, surely all parties have discussed it. We also discussed yesterday, Democrats, yes, we just took a retreat in Pacitan with the Chairman of MTP Pak SBY, as well as our General Chair, Mr. AHY, we also discussed it there," said Dede Yusuf when met at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, July 7.

He added that the Democratic Faction itself plans to hold an internal meeting on Tuesday to formulate its stance before sitting together with other factions.

"What is certain is that the leadership of the DPR will invite the leaders of the faction to sit down together and respond to it," he continued.

Regarding the response to the Constitutional Court's decision, Dede admitted that there were pros and cons among the factions and the public. According to him, parties who support the separation of national and regional elections argue that separation will make it easier for voters, especially because of the complexity when they have to choose five ballot boxes in one day.

"The pros certainly say that this must be separated. Because they chose five boxes, especially for DPRD friends, the number of which was tens of thousands, of course it would make voters feel confused," explained Dede.

On the other hand, the opposing party assesses that the Constitutional Court has exceeded its authority by forming new norms, instead of just testing the constitutionality of existing norms.

"There are also those who say that in Article 22E of the 1945 Constitution, it is said that the DPRD is part of the election. So according to them, the Constitutional Court actually creates new norms, not just evaluating," said Dede.

However, he emphasized that the DPR will continue to carry out its mandate according to the direction of the head of the institution, after consulting with political party factions.

"This pros and cons must be occupied. When? We are still waiting," he concluded.
