Director Of Indonesian Hospital In Gaza Dies, Foreign Minister Sugiono: Serious Violation Of International Humanitarian Law

JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Sugiono said the death of Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan was a sorrow for his family to the medical community, condemning Israeli attacks on civilians and medical personnel.

"My deepest condolences for the death of the Director of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza, dr. Marwan Al-Sultan and his exit as a result of the attack on July 2, 2025," wrote Foreign Minister Sugiono in an upload on Instagram, Thursday, July 3 night.

"The symbol of courage, concern, humanity in the midst of conflict has gone," he continued.

Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that dr. Marwan and his wife and several children were killed in an Israeli fighter attack targeting an apartment in the western region of Gaza.

The attack was part of an Israeli warplane attack targeting residential areas and schools in Gaza City.

"His loss is grief for the family, Palestinian people, the Indonesian people and the international medical community," said the Indonesian Foreign Minister.

"A sincere prayer, deep sympathy and highest respect for dr. Marwan and his family," he wrote.

Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized that the Indonesian government condemned the Israeli attacks on civilians and medical personnel.

"Obviously it is a serious violation of international humanitarian law," he stressed.

Previously, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a previous statement said that the late dr. Marwan is not an Indonesian citizen, but the ministry monitors the news of the death of dr. Marwan and his family.
