Russian Drone Attack Hits Ukrainian Odesa Housing Building, 2 People Killed

JAKARTA - Two people were killed and 14 injured when a Russian drone hit a residential building in the city of Odesa, the Black Sea, Ukraine.

Three children were among the injured in last night's attack, with one in critical condition, the regional governor by goalkeeper reported by Reuters on Saturday, June 28.

Videos uploaded by the State Emergency Service showed firefighters struggling to extinguish the fire and rushing to save residents through the dark stairs in the 21-story building.

Russia has stepped up drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks due to diplomatic efforts to end the war that has lasted for nearly three and a half years has stalled.

On the Russian side, President Vladimir Putin said Russia was ready to hold a new round of peace negotiations with Ukraine. Negotiations are likely in Istanbul, although time and place have not been agreed upon.

Reported by Reuters, Saturday, June 28, Putin said there was a big difference between the proposals submitted by both parties at the previous talks.

But Putin expressed hope that a sustainable dialogue would help narrow the gap.

Putin told reporters in Minsk that negotiators of both sides continued to communicate. Russia is ready to return the bodies of 3,000 other Ukrainian soldiers.
