'Save Soil' Campaign Echoes Land Crisis And Threats Of Food Crisis

JAKARTA Environmental activists and drivers of change (changemakers) from India, Sahil Jha, continue their cycling journey to Jakarta and Bogor in the context of the Save Soil Movement global campaign.

This action calls for urgency to save land from relegation in order to ensure the future of world food.

Sahil was officially accepted by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia at the Roeslan Abdulgani Building, Jakarta.

The meeting took place symbolically and substantively, discussing the potential for cross-border collaboration on land issues and food security.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arif Havas Oegroseno said, Indonesia opens space for movements such as Save Soil to contribute to global strategic issues.

The problem of land health is a global issue because it is part of the impact of climate change. Indonesia as the third largest tropical forest country in the world and the world's largest archipelagic country supports a land health campaign that is also part of one of the SDGs," said Havas.

Meanwhile, Sahil emphasized that healthy soil is the foundation of human life.

'Healthy land is not luxury, but the basic rights of mankind. If the land is damaged, how can we eat and survive?' he said.

Not only that, Sahil attended discussions with the University of Indonesia Alumni Association (ILUNI UI). Also attending the discussion were academics, regenerative agriculture experts, and public officials such as Dr. Mahawan Karunisa, Dr. Nico Wanandy, and Yahdil Abdi Harahap.

95 percent of food comes from the land. If the land is damaged, then the food crisis will be unavoidable," said Mahwan.

The same thing was said by Dr. Nico. He emphasized the importance of land for food security.

"We can have 100 trillion dollars in funds, but without healthy land, the trillions of money cannot produce food," said Dr. Nico.

Yahdil highlighted the overlap in land. The central and regional governments, according to him, need to sit together to reorganize the use of land so that food and forests can be both sustainable.

After Indonesia, Sahil will continue his journey to Singapore, Malaysia, and then cycle around seven European countries, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the UK.

After Europe, the next route is the United States. In the United States, Shalil will cycle from Washington DC to New York.

Sahlil said Indonesia became an important country in this series of cross-border campaigns because of the area of agricultural land and the unique challenges of food security faced.

Save Soil Movement targets to increase soil organic content and collaboration between countries in restoring soil as a source of life.
