3 Rp649 Million ATM Machine Burglars In Magetan Arrested

The Magetan Resort Police (Polres), East Java, arrested three perpetrators of breaking into automated teller machines (ATMs) and stealing money worth Rp. 649 million.

Magetan Police Chief AKBP Erik Bangun Prakasa said the three suspects had the initials DI (44), YPW (37), and BA (24). The three of them are a group of specialists in breaking into minimarkets across Sumatra Java.

"During the action, there were five people. After the pursuit, three suspects were arrested in Jambi, while the other two were on the People's Wanted List (DPO)," said AKBP Erik as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 23.

In their action, the perpetrators entered the minimarket in Mangge Village, West District, Magetan, by climbing the wall with stairs and then breaking the ceiling.

The perpetrator then damaged the existing ATM machine using a welding device to collect cash in it. The total amount of cash in the stolen ATM machine reached Rp. 649 million.

Erik explained that the disclosure was carried out by implementing scientific methods in the investigation of the Jalak Lawu Resmob Team of the Magetan Police Criminal Investigation Unit after pursuing the cross-island to Jambi Province.

The Magetan Police are also working with Jasamarga to detect vehicles passing on toll roads and arterial routes. In addition, coordination is also carried out with cross-regional areas, including the Salatiga Police, East Lampung Police, Jambi Police, and Riau Police.

In that case, the police secured a number of pieces of evidence, including a damaged ATM machine, a complete set of welding equipment, two LPG and oxygen cylinders, a Toyota Innova car, a bamboo ladder, CCTV, millions of rupiah in cash, as well as clothes, watches, and jewelry purchased from stolen money.

The three suspects were charged with Article 363 paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code concerning theft with weight, which carries a maximum prison sentence of nine years.
