The Indonesian Embassy In Tehran And Amman Prepare Contingency And Evacuation Steps For Indonesian Citizens

JAKARTA - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tehran, Iran and Amman, Jordan began to take contingency and evacuation steps for Indonesian citizens (WNI) in line with the development of the situation that occurred from the Israeli-Iran conflict.

The Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said that in accordance with the latest assessment of the development of the security situation in Iran where there was an increase in Israeli attacks and other security considerations, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs gave an order to the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran to increase the protection status of Indonesian citizens from Alert 2 to Alert 1.

"Mr. Foreign Minister has directed us to carry out evacuation steps for Indonesian citizens," Judha said in a statement to reporters, Thursday, June 19.

Judha further said that currently ministries and institutions in the center with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran are preparing evacuation steps.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have held a townhall meeting with Indonesian citizens, conveying the latest updated security situation and evacuation contingency steps that are being prepared," explained Judha.

"A total of 386 Indonesian citizens in Iran. We have collected data on Indonesian citizens who want to be evacuated. This is voluntary, not mandatory," he said.

As for Indonesian citizens in the region, Israel, Judha said there were 194 people and the Indonesian Embassy in Amman had compiled contingency steps and evacuation plans.

He explained that the Indonesian Embassy in Amman had established Alert 1 status for Israeli and Palestinian territories since 2023.

"With the current escalation, we received information that 11 Indonesian citizens asked to be evacuated in Isrel and for that the Indonesian Embassy in Amman is taking steps to prepare for the evacuation," explained Judha.

He added that Indonesian citizens in Iran and Israel must increase vigilance, avoid leaving their homes if it is not important, and follow the evacuation directions that have been implemented or conveyed by the Indonesian Embassy.
