Former West Java Baznas Employee Becomes A Suspect After Dismantling Allegations Of Corruption Asking For LPSK Protection

JAKARTA - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is still reviewing the request for protection submitted by a former West Java Baznas (West Java) employee with the initials T, the reporter for the alleged corruption crime at the institution where he used to work.

Deputy Chairperson of LPSK Susilaningtias said that in-depth examination was carried out in terms of the substance of reports of alleged corruption and in terms of legal status and the level of need for protection for applicants.

"LPSK is reviewing the petition submitted by the applicant on May 27, 2025 and coordinating with the Bandung Kejari and the West Java Regional Police. We want to ensure that the reporter who came in good faith obtains a safe space to convey the truth," said Susi in an official statement, Friday, June 13, was confiscated by Antara.

Based on the initial assessment of LPSK, the reporter T has worked as an amil in West Java Baznas since 2018 and held a number of strategic positions, including in the Internal Compliance and Audit Division.

As an insider, said Susi, T admitted that he found indications of irregularities in the management of two main sources of funds, namely grant funds and zakat funds.

T revealed allegations of misappropriation of grant funds amounting to Rp 11.7 billion sourced from the West Java Regional Budget for the 2021 fiscal year for social assistance programs for communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, T also revealed the use of zakat funds amounting to Rp9.8 billion which allegedly exceeded the maximum operational cost threshold according to regulations, which was 20.5 percent compared to the maximum provision of 12.5 percent.

However, T is currently a suspect for alleged violations of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, related to sending digital documents to the central authorities in the context of reporting violations.

For this reason, LPSK stated that it will continue to oversee the process of developing this case and ensure that the principle of protection against whistleblowers is enforced in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 31 of 2014 concerning the Protection of Witnesses and Victims.

According to Susi, the reporter has an important role in opening up initial access to information on irregularities within the institution. LPSK considers that the state's response to this courage must be in the form of protection, rather than retaliation.

Susi also emphasized the importance of the role of law enforcement officers in maintaining public trust by seriously following up on reports that have been channeled through official mechanisms.

"LPSK encourages law enforcement officials to follow up on reports of alleged corruption submitted by the applicant through LPSK," he said.

He also emphasized that his party is committed to supporting the community's courage in uncovering violations, including from internal institutions, as long as they are carried out in good faith and in accordance with the law.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police arrested a former employee of the National Amil Zakat Agency or West Java Baznas with the initials TY on suspicion of a cyber crime in the form of illegal access and the distribution of classified electronic documents belonging to the institution.

Head of Public Relations of the West Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol.mission Hendra Rochmawan, said the suspect was suspected of storing and distributing classified documents belonging to the West Java Baznas to outsiders without permission.

"This case emerged after the complainant received information that the suspect was suspected of without rights and against the law of having accessed, transferred, and distributed a number of confidential electronic documents belonging to the West Java Baznas," said Hendra in Bandung, Tuesday, May 27.
