Lanal Dumai Failed To Smuggle 48.5 Kilograms Of Crystal Methamphetamine From Malaysia Worth IDR 72 Billion
DUMAI - Dumai Naval Base, Riau, thwarted the smuggling of 44 packs of methamphetamine weighing 48.54 kilograms from Malaysia in the waters of Kuala Parit Uncle, Tanjung Palas, East Dumai.
The commander of the Dumai Navy Base, Colonel Laut Abdul Haris, explained that the estimated Rp72.8 billion of methamphetamine was transported using a speedboat. The carrier was ambushed by officers on Thursday (5/6).
"The failure to smuggle narcotics originated from intelligence information and two teams were deployed to carry out reconnaissance in the field using elements of the Patkamla RBB patrol,peadboats and Sea Rider 85 along with a ground team of 7 personnel," said Colonel Abdul Haris as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 10.
The sea and land teams moving to the location detected a speedboat traveling at low speed and there was a chase. Furthermore, officers also fired warning shots and the courier carrying methamphetamine had hit a patrol boat.
This caused the speedboat's bow to burst and sink. The suspect was seen throwing away suspicious items in Dumai Waters, but was found by the team conducting the search.
