Visits Of Foreign Tourists Reach 132 Thousand In March 2021, Half Of Which Come From China

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded 132.6 thousand foreign tourists visiting in March 2021. This figure has increased by 14.54 percent when compared to February which amounted to 115.8 thousand visits.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Setianto, said the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in March 2021 had fallen sharply by 72.73 percent compared to the number of visits in March last year.

"However, in January to March 2021, there has been an increase, although it is not too big", he said in a virtual press conference, Monday, May 3.

If viewed by nationality, Setianto said the majority of foreign tourists came from Timor Leste, namely 65.2 thousand visits or 49.2 percent. Then followed by Malaysia with 41.1 thousand visits or 31 percent, China 8.5 thousand visits or 6.4 percent, and others 17.8 thousand visits or 13.4 percent.

"If we look at the changes in foreign tourist visits year on year, the largest is from Papua New Guinea, then there are China and Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the decline is from New Zealand, Australia and Kuwait", he said.

Setianto said cumulatively from January to March 2021, the number of foreign tourist visits reached 385.59 thousand visits or decreased by 85.45 percent when compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period in 2020 which totaled 2.65 million visits.

Meanwhile, the Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) of star-classified hotels reached 36.07 percent. This number increased by 3.83 points compared to the ROR for the same month in 2020 which was recorded at 32.24 percent. When compared to the previous month, February 2021, the ROR for March 2021 increased by 3.67 points.

"The average length of stay of foreign and Indonesian guests in star-classified hotels during March 2021 was recorded at 1.65 days, or a decrease of 0.18 points when compared to March 2020", he said.
