Foreign Minister Sugiono Highlights The Importance Of Increasing The Value And Diversification Of Indonesia-Oman Trade

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono highlighted the importance of increasing the value and diversification of Indonesia's trade with Oman.

This was conveyed when receiving an honorary visit from the Ambassador of Oman to Indonesia Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed Salim Al Shanfari.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a written statement said that Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two countries.

In this meeting, the two discussed concrete steps to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including in the trade, investment and tourism sectors.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Sugiono highlighted the importance of increasing the value and diversification of trade between Indonesia and Oman.

"I encourage strengthening connectivity between business actors of the two countries, including through business forums and joint trade missions," said Foreign Minister Sugiono, citing a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday, June 5.

In the investment sector, Foreign Minister Sugiono encourages the use of strategic opportunities, especially in the new and renewable energy sectors, as well as mining to be explored further.

Furthermore, the Indonesian Foreign Minister and Ambassador Oman also highlighted the tourism sector which is considered necessary to continue to develop. The interest of Oman residents to visit Indonesia continues to grow and is not even limited to Bali, but also other tourist destinations in Indonesia. On the other hand, Ambassador Oman hopes that more Indonesian tourists can visit Oman.

The Indonesian Foreign Minister and Ambassador Oman also agreed to encourage high-level visits and also continue preparations for the 2nd RI-Oman Political Consultation.

The ministry said this bilateral meeting was part of Indonesia's commitment to strengthening diplomatic networks with various partner countries, especially in the Middle East, as part of an active contribution to peace and stability in the Middle East region.

It is known that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Oman have been established since 1978. In 2024, Oman is the 3rd largest trading partner and the origin of 4th foreign tourists for Indonesia from the Middle East region.
